The Designer Desislava Tosheva

Desislava Tosheva founded Caviar Couture at the age of 18, guided by a vision shaped by her love for femininity, elegance, timeless class, and the artistry of grace. What began as the pursuit of the perfect gown soon evolved into a couture house recognized on the international stage.

THE BEGINNING

Raised in an environment filled with art, paintings, and books, Desislava immersed herself in the enchanting world of haute couture shows, captivated by fabrics, beauty, and the transformative power of fashion.

She took her very first stitches on the old Singer sewing machine of her great-grandmother — a seamstress by profession and a true guardian of craft, who laid the foundations of the legacy continued today in Caviar Couture.

On her 100th birthday, she became the oldest woman ever to wear a Caviar Couture gown, dressed by Desislava in a creation made as a tribute to her centenary. Today, at 103, she remains an enduring symbol and inspiration for the House.

ACADEMIC PATH

Education has always been an inseparable part of Desislava Tosheva’s journey. Guided by both artistic intuition and intellectual curiosity, she earned her Bachelor’s degree with Honours in International Business Management, building a strong foundation in strategy, innovation, and global markets. Building upon this path, she completed a Master’s degree in Marketing & Development Economics at the prestigious University of St Andrews — one of the oldest and most respected universities in the UK, whose alumni include members of the British royal family such as Prince William and Kate Middleton. There she deepened her understanding of how culture, innovation, and entrepreneurship shape societies and industries worldwide. This academic journey gave her the rare ability to approach fashion not only as an art form but also as a discipline rooted in knowledge and global perspective — blending creativity with strategic vision, a combination that would later define the success of Caviar Couture internationally.

PROFESSIONAL PATH

Her achievements soon drew international recognition: Forbes described her success as “an unprecedented breakthrough for a Bulgarian designer in the world of fashion,” and included her in the “30 Under 30” list in the Business Owners category.

Vogue defined Caviar Couture as a “top fashion brand,” while L’Officiel Paris featured Desislava among the “Five female couture designers changing the game.”

In 2024, she was honored with the prestigious Golden Martenitsa Award, presented personally by the Vice President and President of Bulgaria, in recognition of her outstanding business practices, entrepreneurial excellence, and for positioning her House on the international stage.

That same year, she was also nominated for Grazia’s Woman of the Year in the Designers category.

Desislava is also a Honorary Citizen of the city of Lom, where she was awarded the Honorary Sign for significant achievements in culture, art, and elevating the name of her hometown internationally.

Desislava’s voice extends far beyond couture — she contributes to shaping tomorrow’s leaders. She was a participant at Forbes Women Forum 2023, joining dynamic discussions on leadership, innovation, and the role of women in business and creativity. She has been invited to speak at New Bulgarian University as a guest lecturer, and she regularly addresses fashion schools and gymnasiums in the capital, sharing her journey and bridging the world of high fashion with emerging talent. Desislava also participated in SofiaTalks Business, the first major Bulgarian business conference designed for high-school and university students, where real-world success stories and insights meet young ambition.  In November 2024, she joined LUX ONLY 2024, Bulgaria’s premier Business of Luxury conference at Hilton Sofia, focusing on perspectives, challenges, trends, sustainability and innovations in the luxury sector.

HUMANITARIAN & SOCIAL WORK

In addition to her educational initiatives, Desislava is deeply committed to social and humanitarian causes.

She created one of the most influential platforms supporting refugees from Ukraine, uniting over 122,000 people. Through her work, she has helped tens of thousands of families find safety — providing housing, transportation, medical and legal assistance, and building a network of connections and allies across the world. The initiative received international recognition, with leading media outlets such as USA Today and the BBC covering her contribution.

Desislava is also actively engaged in charitable initiatives and events, supporting various foundations and causes related to culture, education, and humanitarian work. The most recent was in support of the Foundation “Assistance for People with Developmental Problems” through the initiative “Prom Dresses with a Cause”, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, where donated Caviar Couture gowns helped raise funds for high school graduates from vulnerable groups and children with autism.

Through her humanitarian and social commitment, Desislava proves that fashion in its highest form is not only a matter of beauty and artistry, but also of responsibility, humanity, and the power to inspire positive transformation.

MISSION & BRAND IDENTITY

By founding Caviar Couture, Desislava shaped a brand identity intrinsically linked to her own values and culture — a reflection of the intelligent, resilient, and ambitious woman who, with passion and perseverance, achieves every goal she sets. This vision and inner strength became the foundation of the House’s philosophy: each gown is not merely clothing, but a statement of individuality, confidence, and the triumph of femininity. Even the very name of the brand carries this ethos within it — a symbol of the woman it celebrates: Capable, Ambitious, Visionary, Intelligent, Admirable, Remarkable. As Desislava herself says: “They say, give a woman the right shoes and she will conquer the world. Give her the right dress — and she will conquer the universe.”
